Obverse description Equestrian effigy of the Tsar depicted as a mounted warrior, facing right, wielding a spear at full gallop in the traditional Russian wire money style. The figure is rendered in a bold, schematic manner characteristic of late Muscovite hammered coinage. Cyrillic date numerals appear beneath the horse's hooves in the lower field. The flan is irregular in outline, typical of the chekha (wire-cut) production method.
