| Obverse description | Characteristic wire money (cheshуika) obverse depicting a mounted equestrian figure of the Tsar in profile, shown riding to the right and brandishing a spear or lance. The rider is rendered in the traditional schematic style of Muscovite wire coinage, with the horse in full stride beneath him. The design is struck on an irregular, bean-shaped flan typical of the hammered wire technique, resulting in partial and uneven impression of the die. The field surface is flat to slightly concave due to the production method. |
