Obverse description Crude hammered effigy of Tsar Peter I facing right, depicted on horseback in the traditional Russian wire money style. The rider is shown with a raised arm, consistent with the conventional equestrian motif inherited from earlier Muscovite coinage. The flan is irregular in shape, characteristic of the chekanka technique whereby a silver wire blank was cut and struck between two dies. The design is rendered in bold, deeply impressed relief against a rough, uneven field typical of late wire kopecks.
