| Obverse description | Tsar on horseback facing right, depicted as a mounted warrior with a lance or spear raised in the right hand, the horse in full stride. The design is rendered in the traditional Muscovite wire money style, with bold but roughly executed relief typical of hammered coinage. The flan is irregular in outline, a characteristic result of the wire-cutting and hand-striking technique. The equestrian motif follows the long-established iconographic tradition of the Russian kopeck, evoking the image of the sovereign as military ruler. |
