| Obverse description | Tsar on horseback facing right, depicted as a mounted warrior with a lance or spear raised in the right hand, the horse in full stride. The design is rendered in the traditional Muscovite wire money style, with bold but roughly executed relief typical of hammered coinage. The flan is irregular in outline, a characteristic result of the wire-cutting and hand-striking technique.
