Reverse description The reverse bears a multi-line Cyrillic inscription in early Russian script, boldly struck across the irregular oval flan and reading 'Царь Петр Алексеевич' (Tsar Peter Alexeyevich), the titulature of Peter I. The legend is arranged in three abbreviated lines and fills virtually the entire field, in keeping with the standard format of Russian wire kopecks of this period. Individual letters are rendered in a bold, archaic Slavonic style consistent with the die-engraving conventions of the Moscow Mint in the early eighteenth century. The flan edges are ragged and uneven, a hallmark of the wire-money (чешуйка) production technique.
