Obverse description Equestrian figure of the Tsar depicted as a mounted warrior, facing right, on a galloping horse, holding a spear or lance pointed downward in the traditional pose of St. George slaying the dragon — a long-standing motif on Russian wire kopecks. Cyrillic date letters appear beneath the horse's hooves, surmounted by a titlo (abbreviation mark), rendering the year 1703 in Church Slavonic numeral notation. The flan is of the characteristic irregular, elongated wire-cut shape typical of Russian chekhi (wire money). The design is struck in shallow relief with slightly crude execution consistent with hand-hammered production.
