Obverse description Tsar on horseback facing right, depicted in the traditional Russian wire money style characteristic of the chekanka technique. The rider, representing Peter I, is shown with a lance or spear raised, mounted on a striding horse. The design is rendered in low relief on an irregular flan, with the image partially struck and typical of the crude but distinctive wire kopeck coinage. The overall composition follows the long-established Muscovite equestrian type inherited from earlier tsars.
