Obverse description Obverse of this wire money (cheshуika) depicts a mounted horseman — the traditional equestrian figure of the Tsar — shown in right profile, brandishing a spear or lance in the raised right hand while seated on a galloping horse. The strike, typical of hammered wire coinage of the period, renders the design in high relief on an irregularly shaped flan. The field is uneven due to the hand-cut wire planchet, and the design is only partially visible as is characteristic of this denomination. No border or legend appears on this face.
