| Obverse description | Depiction of a mounted horseman — the traditional image of a rider on horseback — struck on an irregularly shaped silver wire planchet, characteristic of Russian chekhi (wire money) of the period. The equestrian figure, rendered in a highly stylised and compressed manner due to the nature of the hammered wire technique, occupies the majority of the available flan. The design derives from the longstanding Muscovite iconographic tradition of the armed rider, here adapted for the early Petrine coinage. The surfaces show typical die-struck relief with irregular flan edges consistent with the wire-cut production method. |
