Mintage ND (1617-1627) НРКЕ - Velikiy Novgorod
Additional information

The Velikiy Novgorod mint reopened under Mikhail I following the catastrophic Swedish occupation that ended with the Stolbovo Peace of 1617 — the very treaty that ceded Ingria and Karelia to Sweden but restored Novgorod to Russian control. Coins struck here in the immediate aftermath carry particular historical weight: the city had been under Swedish administration since 1611, and Swedish-controlled mints had briefly issued their own wire money in the tsar's name as a legitimizing fiction. This piece postdates that occupation.

The НРКЕ mintmark distinguishes Novgorod production from Moscow and Pskov issues of the same reign.
