| Obverse description | A mounted warrior — representing the Tsar — rides a galloping horse to the right, holding a spear (kopye) aloft in his right hand, a design type characteristic of Russian wire money of the period. Beneath the hooves of the horse appears the mintmark ПС, identifying the Pskov mint. The overall composition is rendered in the schematic, compressed style typical of chekanka (hammered wire coinage), struck on an irregular flan shaped from a drawn silver wire blank. No border or inner circle is present, and the design elements are confined within the naturally irregular edges of the planchet. |
