Obverse description Equestrian figure of the Tsar depicted as a mounted warrior, galloping to the right while brandishing a lance or spear, rendered in the traditional Russian wire-money style with bold, schematic strokes. The horseman is shown in profile atop a vigorous, forward-lunging horse with raised forelegs. The mint mark letters 'о М', denoting the Moscow Mint, appear beneath the hooves of the horse in the lower field. The design occupies nearly the full surface of the irregular flan, characteristic of scale-money (cheshuyка) coinage of the period.
