Obverse description Equestrian figure of the Tsar depicted in right profile, shown as an armored rider on horseback, lance raised and directed downward toward a prostrate figure or serpent beneath the horse's hooves, in the traditional St. George-derived iconographic convention standard to Muscovite coinage. The design is rendered in the bold, schematic style characteristic of early 17th-century Russian wire money, with the irregular flan partially obscuring portions of the design. The mint mark 'o M' (denoting the Moscow Mint) appears in the field, serving as the primary distinguishing feature of this emission within the reign of Mikhail Fedorovich.
