Obverse description A mounted equestrian figure of Tsar Mikhail Fyodorovich is depicted in right-facing profile, seated upon a prancing horse and bearing a lance or spear held diagonally across the field, rendered in the characteristic schematic style of early Romanov wire money. The design occupies the entire irregular flan, with portions of the design necessarily cut off at the jagged edges due to the nature of the hammered wire planchet. Above the horseman, fragmentary Cyrillic characters indicating the mint mark 'о М' (Moscow Mint) are visible. The relief is bold but uneven, consistent with hand-hammered production technique. The overall composition follows the established Russian kopeck iconographic tradition of the period.
