| Reverse description | The reverse bears a multi-line Cyrillic inscription filling the entire field of the irregularly shaped flan, characteristic of Russian wire money (cheshuykas) of the early Romanov period. The legend, spread across five to six lines, names Tsar and Grand Duke Mikhail Feodorovich of All Rus, rendered in the archaic Muscovite titulature standard for coinage of this reign. The letters are boldly struck in high relief against a flat, unadorned field, with no border or decorative elements framing the text. The irregular outline of the flan causes portions of the inscription to be cut off at the edges, a common characteristic of this denomination and striking method. |
