| Obverse description | Characteristic wire-money obverse depicting an armored equestrian figure — the Tsar or a warrior — riding to the right on a prancing horse, with a lance or spear raised in the right hand and directed downward toward a fallen adversary or serpent beneath the horse's hooves. The design is rendered in low relief on an irregularly shaped flan typical of hammered wire coinage, with the image partially cropped at the flan edges. The field is plain and unadorned, the style reflecting the archaic, abbreviated artistic conventions of mid-sixteenth-century Muscovite mint production. The mint mark letters ИВЯ (IVYa), identifying the Pskov Mint issue, appear in the field. |
