Obverse description Struck on an irregular planchet cut from silver wire, the obverse features a mounted warrior — representing the Tsar — depicted in right-facing profile astride a galloping horse and bearing a raised spear, in the traditional Russian wire money (cheshуika) style. The figure is rendered in a crude but vigorous manner characteristic of mid-17th-century Russian hammered coinage. Mint mark letters appear beneath the horse's hooves, identifying the issuing facility.
