Obverse description Struck on an irregularly shaped flan typical of Russian wire money (cheshuykas), the obverse depicts a horseman in right profile, armed with a lance or spear, mounted on a galloping horse. The design is rendered in a schematic, medieval Slavic style with bold but roughly defined relief. The figure of the rider dominates the small flan, with portions of the design frequently off-flan due to the nature of the hammered wire coinage technique. The mint mark 'оМ' (Moscow Mint) appears in the field.
