Obverse description A mounted horseman (the traditional Russian 'kopye' spearman) depicted at full gallop on a horse facing right, lance couched and extending forward. The rider is rendered in a stylized, archaic manner characteristic of late 16th-century Russian wire money. Mint letters appear beneath the horse's hooves in Cyrillic, identifying the Pskov mint. The design occupies the full irregular flan, with details varying by strike due to the hand-hammered wire-coin production method.
