| Obverse description | A crowned equestrian figure — the traditional Russian horseman (копейщик) — is depicted in profile galloping to the right, brandishing a long spear in the right hand and controlling the horse with the left. The rider wears a crown and is rendered in the stylised, flat relief characteristic of Russian wire money of the period. The mint signature В НО (Velikiy Novgorod) and date characters РЗ (7107, corresponding to 1599) appear in the lower field, partially visible on this flan. The design is struck on an irregular, bean-shaped silver flan typical of chekanka wire-money production. |
