| Reverse description | The reverse bears a multi-line Cyrillic inscription filling the entire field, arranged in horizontal registers across the characteristic oval flan. The legend reads the full titulature of Tsar Alexis Mikhailovich: ЦАРЬ И ВЕЛИКИЙ КНЯЗЬ АЛЕКСЕЙ МИХАЙЛОВИЧ ВСЕЯ РУСИ (Tsar and Grand Prince Aleksei Mikhailovich of All Russia). The lettering is boldly struck in raised relief, with the cramped layout necessitated by the small, elongated wire-cut flan causing some peripheral letters to fall off the edge. The script is early Muscovite Cyrillic in the style conventional to mid-17th century Russian scale coinage. |
