| Obverse description | Crudely hammered copper flan bearing the Arabic royal legend of Sultan Ismail Shah arranged across the field in two or more lines. The inscription, reading 'al-Sultan Ismail Shah', is rendered in a rough, provincial Naskh hand typical of Kashmir Sultanate coinage of the mid-sixteenth century. A group of small pellets is visible centrally in the field, serving as a decorative or separating device between elements of the legend. The irregular flan edges and uneven strike are consistent with local hammered production. The coin exhibits characteristic green cuprite patination across the entire surface. |
