Obverse description Large bust of Kapitänleutnant Hellmuth von Mücke in three-quarter view facing left, rendered in high relief and filling most of the field. The curved legend along the left and right rims reads KAPITÄNLEUTNANT and VON MÜCKE respectively. The engraver's signature appears in small letters at the lower right of the bust.

Reverse description A three-masted sailing schooner, identified as the Emden II, depicted under full sail and navigating rough seas, rendered in high relief at center. The curved legend along the upper rim records the dates KIELING-JNSELN 9. NOVEMBER 1914 and HODEIDA 3. FEBRUAR 1915. Below the ship, a five-line verse inscription in the lower field concludes with a decorative motif featuring oak leaves and an Iron Cross.
