Obverse description Crude hammered field bearing a stylized Arabic legend arranged in a compressed, informal manner typical of Khwarezmian billon jitals. The inscription, reading 'al-Sultan al-A'zam Jalal al-Dunya wa'l-Din,' occupies the central field within a plain border. The lettering is characteristic of the hasty die-cutting associated with wartime emergency coinage of Jalal ad-Din Mangubarni's reign. The surface is irregular and slightly convex, consistent with hand-struck billon coinage of the early 13th century.
