| Obverse description | Central field bearing the Nagari legend in three lines reading 'Sri Samanta Deva', the honorific title adopted by the Ghaznavid rulers for their Indian coinage in deference to local Hindu administrative tradition. The inscription is rendered in a bold, somewhat cursive Nagari script characteristic of the Lahore mint issues of this period. The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the edges, consistent with the hammered billon coinage of the Ghaznavid provincial series. The field surrounding the legend is flat and undecorated, with no border or rim embellishment. |
