Obverse description The obverse depicts a central monument flanked by two standing soldiers in relief, representing the Clairière de l'Armistice at Compiègne where the armistice ending World War I was signed on 11 November 1918. The dates 1914 and 1918 appear at the base of the monument, with a palm branch in the foreground. A circular legend around the field reads 'COMPIEGNE - CLAIRIERE DE L'ARMISTICE', separated by bullet points, and a three-line inscription in the lower exergue reads 'AUX HEROIQUES SOLDATS DE FRANCE', all within a beaded border.
