Obverse description Reverse side of the Frankfurt Thaler host coin, serving as the obverse of the Jefimok, displaying the crowned arms of Frankfurt — an imperial eagle displayed with spread wings — surrounded by the Latin municipal legend. Two Russian countermarks applied by Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich in 1655 are prominently struck upon the field: a circular punchmark depicting an equestrian figure of the Tsar (the so-called 'horseman' kopek counterstamp) with a beaded border, and a rectangular cartouche stamp bearing the date '1655' in Cyrillic numerals. The countermarks authenticate and revalue the host thaler for circulation within the Russian monetary system.
