Obverse description The obverse displays the host coin's design: the elaborately ornamented quartered coat of arms of the County of Erbach surmounted by a crowned helmet with ornate mantling, set within a sunburst-style decorative surround with scrollwork. The circular legend in Latin reads MONETA NOVA ARGENT COMIT ERBACHI, interrupted by the date 1623 in the field. Two Russian countermarks applied in 1655 are visible in the upper field: a rectangular stamp bearing the date '1655' and a circular stamp depicting a mounted horseman (the St. George-type rider with spear), both characteristic Jefimok countermarks authorised under Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich.
