Obverse description Effigy of Queen Victoria facing left, wearing a diadem and veil, with her hair tied back in the imperial style as engraved by William Wyon. The legend VICTORIA EMPRESS runs along the upper periphery. Applied over the host coin's obverse field is a rectangular counterstamp in Arabic script reading 'Abd al-Latif San'a al-Fiddah bi-Jibuti' (Abd al-Latif, Silversmith of Djibouti), identifying a local silversmith or money-changer operating in the Djibouti region. A fine beaded border frames the entire design.
