Obverse description The field displays the Austrian imperial double-headed eagle with spread wings, each head surmounted by a crown and the whole topped by a larger imperial crown; the eagle bears on its breast the Austrian striped shield, and holds a sword and scepter in its talons. Above the eagle, a radiant all-seeing eye within a triangle appears at the top of the field. The circular legend reads AUSTRIACORUM IN MOLDAVIA FIDES, with the date MDCCCLXVIII in the lower exergue and the engraver's signature SEIDAN below.
