Obverse description Within a dotted border, the nimbate Virgin Mary is depicted in orans posture as a frontal bust, framed by the stylized battlemented walls and six towers of Constantinople rendered in relief. Control letters (sigla) A and K appear in the field to either side of the figure. The composition is executed in the characteristic Byzantine scyphate style, with fine linear drapery detail on the maphorion.
