Obverse description Two hands emerging from clouds hold a laurel-wreathed oval medallion bearing the draped bust of Frederick III in right profile. Three chains descend from the oval frame, suspending a detailed panoramic view of the city of Magdeburg with its skyline of towers and the river in the foreground. The peripheral legend runs along the outer border, with the motto inscribed in the field on either side of the portrait medallion.

Reverse description A large leafy tree dominates the center of the field, flanked to the left by the uprooted stump of a fallen tree and to the right by a small sapling; a seated female figure, representing the city goddess of Magdeburg, rests at the base of the tree holding a crown. The landscape with hills and ruins extends into the background. The lower exergue carries a three-line inscription with the date, and the peripheral legend encircles the upper field, with the motto inscribed in the open areas of the field.
