Obverse description Facing nimbate bust of Christ Pantocrator, the nimbus cruciger decorated with three pellets in each arm of the cross. Christ is shown draped in a tunic and pallium, holding the Gospels with both hands before his chest. The legend is disposed in the field to either side of the bust in Greek majuscules. The style is characteristic of the refined Byzantine imperial coinage of the mid-tenth century.
