Obverse description Nimbate facing bust of Christ Pantocrator within a jewelled cruciform nimbus adorned with a square and four pellets in each arm, rendered in the hieratic Byzantine style. Christ is draped in a tunic (chiton) and pallium, holding a jewelled Book of Gospels in the left hand. The bust is centrally positioned within the coin field, with the Greek legend disposed around the periphery.
