| Obverse description | Draped bust of Persephone (or Artemis-Arethusa) facing right, her hair elaborately braided and bound with a laurel wreath, with loose curling locks falling at the nape of the neck. A small Macedonian-style helmet or symbol appears behind the neck in the lower left field, possibly serving as a mint control mark. The finely modelled portrait exhibits the high artistic quality characteristic of Syracusan coinage of the early third century BC, rendered in the Hellenistic tradition. The entire design is enclosed within a border of raised dots. |

A floral or branch symbol occupies the lower left field as a control mark.
