Obverse description Facing right head of Herakles rendered in archaic Greek style, the hero clad in the distinctive lion's skin headdress whose scalp and knotted forepaws are visible atop the cranium. The portrait is bold and compact, filling the broad, irregularly shaped flan with a strong, youthful profile. The facial features — including the brow, eye, and jawline — are rendered with the characteristic stylized vigour of Thessalian coinage of the early fourth century BC. The field is otherwise plain, with no legend on this side.
