Sybaris was destroyed in 510 BC by the neighboring city of Croton, whose forces reportedly diverted the river Crathis to flood and obliterate the site — an act so thorough that the city's exact location remained disputed for millennia. Any silver coinage attributable to Sybaris predates that destruction absolutely, placing this hemiobol within one of the shortest numismatic windows in Magna Graecia.
