Argos sat out the Persian Wars — officially neutral, though contemporaries suspected Persian sympathies — and this hemiobol belongs to the coinage produced in the decades immediately following that fraught abstention. The city's political isolation from the Hellenic alliance had practical monetary consequences: Argive silver circulated in a regional economy largely cut off from the broader networks of allied Greek states through much of this period.
The BCD Peloponnesos references trace to the collection of a single dedicated specialist whose assembly of Peloponnesian bronzes and fractional silvers remains the benchmark for this series.
