Reverse description A quadripartite incuse square of skewed or mill-sail type, divided into four recessed compartments by raised ridges meeting at the centre, typical of early Greek coinage struck by the hammered technique. The alternating raised and sunken quadrants display a rough granular texture resulting from the incuse punch. This reverse type is characteristic of Byzantion hemidrachms of the late fifth and early fourth centuries BC and reflects the archaic monetary tradition of the western Pontic region.
