Additional information

Kyzikos, a Milesian colony on the Propontis, was one of antiquity's most active minting cities — its electrum staters circulated across the Greek world as a trusted trade currency for centuries. The silver fractions, hemiobol included, served local exchange where the high-value electrum pieces were impractical. This particular denomination sits at the smallest end of a finely articulated weight standard.

The Rosen collection, from which this piece is referenced, was among the most rigorously assembled hoards of Greek Asia Minor coinage in private hands before its dispersal.
