Obverse description Eagle standing to right atop a hare, wings spread and partially raised in a bold, dynamic composition filling the field. The bird's plumage is rendered with fine detail, the individual feathers of the wings incised with confident strokes characteristic of late fifth-century Sicilian die-cutting. The ethnic legend AKRAGANTINON appears in Greek characters arranged around the upper field. The hare is depicted beneath the eagle's talons, rendered in low relief at the lower left.
