Obverse description Facing left, the youthful head of the nymph Arethusa rendered in fine relief, her wavy hair gathered and bound in a sphendone; loose tresses fall naturally along the neck. The modeling is characteristic of the late fifth-century Syracusan die-cutting tradition. A grain ear is visible to the right of the neck, serving as a subsidiary device in the field.
