Reverse description A dolphin leaping dynamically to the right, its body arched and flukes raised, occupying the central field. The Greek ethnic legend ΛIΠAPAION is disposed around the periphery of the flan, referencing the issuing community of Lipara. The rendering of the dolphin is vigorous and naturalistic, consistent with the maritime iconographic tradition common to Sicilian and Aeolian island bronze issues of the late fifth century BC.
