Obverse description A dolphin swimming to left, depicted in high relief with naturalistic detail, enclosed within the distinctive sickle-shaped harbour (delphiniform ketos) of Zankle rendered as a curved border. Two archaic Greek letters DA appear in the lower field beneath the dolphin. The composition is characteristic of early Sicilian coinage, combining civic topography with marine symbolism in a bold, archaic style.
