Reverse description Standing figure of Hephaistos facing left, clad in short chiton and wearing a pilos cap, holding a hammer in his right hand and tongs in his left; the deity is associated with the thermal springs for which Thermai Himerensis was renowned. The circular Greek legend ΘΕΡΜΙΤΑΝ ΙΜΕΡΑΙΩΝ runs around the field, identifying the issuing city. The composition is typical of late Sicilian civic bronze coinage, with the deity rendered in a bold, slightly schematic style consistent with the third century BC.
