| Obverse description | Forepart of a lion in high relief, depicted in three-quarter view moving to the right with the head dramatically turned back to the left, jaws open and tongue visible. The mane is rendered with bold, deeply engraved striations radiating from the neck, conveying vigorous naturalism characteristic of Chersonesian coinage. The muscular forequarters and raised paws are clearly articulated, filling the flan. The field is plain and unlettered, with no legend or border ornament. |
