Obverse description Bust of Ardashir I facing right, wearing a distinctive mural crown surmounted by a crescent and korymbos (hair ball encased in fabric), with elaborate long curled beard rendered in fine beaded detail. The king is draped in royal robes with visible ribbons or diadem ties flowing behind the neck. A circular Pahlavi legend surrounds the effigy within a beaded border, identifying the ruler as the Mazda-worshipping lord Ardashir, King of Kings of Iran.
