| Reverse description | Within a concave incuse square, a kantharos (two-handled wine cup) occupies the central field, flanked above by a club oriented to the right and to the lower right by a bunch of grapes suspended from a vine. The Greek inscription ΒΟΙ is disposed around the central devices, serving as an abbreviation for Boiotia and affirming the federal issuing authority. The incuse square technique, characteristic of early federal Boeotian coinage, provides a recessed frame that contrasts with the raised devices. The composition reflects the Dionysiac symbolism prevalent in Boeotian numismatic iconography. |
