| Obverse description | Forepart of a lion advancing to right in high relief, head reverted to left with open jaws, displaying the characteristic mane rendered in fine engraved striations. The powerful musculature of the forelegs and chest is boldly modelled, consistent with the vigorous archaic-to-classical artistic tradition of the Chersonese mint. The design fills the flan with no border or legend, the entire field devoted to this dominant feline motif. |
