Obverse description Youthful head of Dionysos facing left, rendered in fine late Classical style with softly modeled features, a small dot at the chin, and luxuriant curling hair entwined with an ivy wreath whose leaves and berries are depicted in high relief. The naturalistic treatment of the hair, falling in thick locks behind the neck, is characteristic of the accomplished die-cutters active at Naxos during this period. The field is plain, with no legend on this side.
